Comics I Wrote

For the past few years, most of my work has been writing for the classic children's comic, The Beano. I'm pleased to say that I've written for some of the comic's most infamous characters, including Minnie the Minx, the Bash Street Kids, Billy Whizz and Roger the Dodger, as well as helping develop new characters like Sketch Khad, Stevie Star and Mahira of the Match (who have now all joined Class 2B in The Bash Street Kids). Here's a few samples of what I've been up to! Enjoy! (Click on images to expand them).

All strips are © DC Thomson & Co, Ltd.

Minnie the Minx, 'Judge Minnie', issue 4061. Art by Laura Howell. I filled this one with corny courtroom gags, but I think it all came together well! I remember our editor in particular enjoying this one!

Bash Street Kids, 'Niffy Fart Trading', issue 4129. Art by David Sutherland. This story became a little bit infamous for a few days online, as the Bash Street Kids tackled the scourge of NFTs.

Dangerous Dan, 'Tech? No!', issue 4136. Art by the Sharp Brothers. This one just amused me for the idea of a Bond-like character having to call tech support. Plus, I was pleased with the 'We Have All the Time in the World' hold music gag!

Bash Street Kids' 65th Anniversary, issue 3972. Art by David Sutherland. I'd been writing the Bash Street Kids for a couple of years or so when I was asked to write the story for their 65th birthday celebrations. I put in some nods to the strip's history here and there, and enjoyed placating my inner Beano nerd.

Beano 4000, issue 4000. Art by Nigel Parkinson. I was honoured to be asked to write the overarching story for the Beano's historic 4000th issue. I was very pleased with the time-hopping antics, and its been one of the few occasions where I got to write for the main menace himself, Dennis.

Hope you enjoyed this selection of strips, and don't forget you can enjoy more by picking up the Beano every Wednesday! Hurrah!
